General Questions

Q: What are Protection Plans / Extended Warranties?

A: Protection plans are a great way for customers to protect themselves from expensive replacements of high value items. Product protection plans, also referred to as extended warranties, extended service plans, extended service contracts, accidental damage plans, or - in the case of wheels and tires - road hazard plans, provide customers with coverage beyond any manufacturer's warranty.

Q: What is a New Tread Protection Plan?

A: The New Tread Protection Plan is offered by WheelSetGo and administered by Automotive Business Solutions (ABS); it provides you with coverage beyond the manufacturer’s warranty. The plan is Road Hazard Protection, which begins at the time of purchase and covers damage caused by unforeseen road hazard accidents. With regard to tires and wheels, this would include accidental damage from hitting a pothole or running over nails, glass, or other hazardous debris that typically would not be in the roadway.

Q: Why should I buy extended warranty coverage?

A: Fixing or replacing wheels and tires can be expensive. A New Tread Protection Plan is a low-cost way to protect your investment.

Q: What type of tire or wheel damage does a New Tread Protection Plan cover?

A: A New Tread Road Hazard Protection Plan from WheelSetGo covers damage to your tire(s) or wheel(s) from objects and road conditions not generally found in the roadway.

For tires, a road hazard occurs when a tire fails due to a puncture, bruise, or break incurred during normal driving on a maintained road. Nails, glass, and potholes would be the most common examples of road hazard damage. The New Tread Protection Plan covers tires that are rendered repairable as well as unserviceable.

For wheels, a road hazard occurs when a wheel fails due to bending or cracking during normal driving on a maintained road. Potholes are the most common culprit. The New Tread Protection Plan covers wheels that are rendered repairable as well as unserviceable.

BONUS: New Tread Protection Plans cover cosmetic wheel damage**, offering up to two (2) repair occurrences per wheel. Curb rash from hitting a street curb, or large scratch marks across the face of a wheel due to tree limbs / branches in the roadway are the most common causes of cosmetic wheel damage.

NOTE: New Tread Protection Plans may be offered on certain 'commercial' tires or wheels as those products can also be used for personal applications. It should be noted that tires or wheels used for commercial use* ARE EXCLUDED from coverage.

*Commercial Use: A vehicle registered to a business and/or for business purposes. Vehicles that are used in excess of manufacturers’ G.V.W. Vehicles used for construction purposes, delivery purposes, commercial towing, commercial farm operation, tow trucks, snowplows, any type of emergency vehicles, volunteer public service(s), motor pool vehicles, rental, taxi cabs, livery or for excessive hauling and pulling are excluded from coverage.

**Cosmetic Wheel Repair: Chrome or chrome plated wheels are not eligible for cosmetic repair.

Q: Are any other services provided with the New Tread Protection Plan?

A: YES! As a Road Hazard Program, the New Tread Protection Plan also offers Flat Tire Changing Assistance, providing you with full peace of mind whenever you take to the road.

The flat tire changing assistance portion of the plan allows you to use the service provider of your choice and reimburses you up to $120.00 for eligible incurred expenses.

BONUS: The Plan allows for multiple uses of the service throughout the plan term.

Q: How do I purchase a New Tread Protection Plan?

A: You can add the protection plan to your online shopping cart with your tire and/or wheel product, or you can purchase the plan over the phone by speaking with WheelSetGo's Sales / Fitment team.

Note, it is highly recommended to purchase a Road Hazard plan at the time the product is purchased, not after. Fortunately, New Tread Protection Plans can be purchased up to 30-days post-tire or post-wheel purchase*.

*Plans Post-Purchase: New Tread coverage can be purchased 30-days after the original wheel and/or tire purchase as long as a road hazard event has not already occurred and you do not have a current road hazard claim in process.

Q: What is a Repairable Tire?

A: A repairable tire is one with more than 2/32” of tread depth remaining that has been punctured or damaged due to a road hazard and can be safely repaired per the manufacturer's guidelines.

Most common tire repair methods include using a patch, a plug, or a combination of the two.

The New Tread Road Hazard Plan will cover up to $40.00 to have the tire repaired.

BONUS: The Plan will remain in effect to continue covering against future road hazards.

Q: What is a Repairable Wheel?

A: A repairable wheel is one that is damaged due to a road hazard and can safely be repaired per the manufacturer’s guidelines.

The best wheel repair method will be determined by the repair shop and Plan Administer.

BONUS: The Plan will remain in effect to continue covering against future road hazards.

Q: What is a Cosmetically Damaged Wheel?

A: Cosmetic wheel damage includes non-structural surface damage such as minor curb rash or flaking paint. These types of cosmetic damage are covered* under the New Tread Protection Plan, allocating $200 for the wheel to be reconditioned using manufacturer alloy wheel repair techniques.

BONUS: The Plan covers up to two (2) occurrences per wheel** per plan coverage period. Meaning the Plan will remain in effect to cover against another cosmetic situation.

*Wheels will not be replaced due to cosmetic or superficial damage.

**Chrome or chrome plated wheels are not eligible for cosmetic repair.

Q: What is an Unserviceable Tire?

A: An unserviceable tire is one that has been punctured or otherwise damaged to the extent that it is unrepairable (i.e. it CANNOT be repaired with a patch, a plug, or a combination of the two); or a tire that has served past its tread life indicated by a tread depth that is 2/32" or less.

Q: What is an Unserviceable Wheel?

A: An unserviceable wheel is damaged to the point of being inoperable and cannot be repaired safely to again hold a seal with its tire.

Q: If my tire is deemed Unserviceable, what type of replacement will I receive?

A: Replacement of the same or comparable quality tire will be made up to 100% of the retail price paid (shown on the original invoice) for the original tire. The replacement process works best when payment can be issued by the plan administer over the phone directly to the tire retailer or tire install shop.

When it comes to tires, replacement coverage is valid through the plan term, or through the tread life of a tire, whichever comes first (tires with 2/32" or less of remaining tread depth are excluded).

Q: If my wheel is deemed Unserviceable, what type of replacement will I receive?

A: Replacement of the same wheel will be made up to 120% of the retail price paid (shown on the original invoice) for the original wheel. The replacement process works best when payment can be issued by the plan administrer over the phone directly to the wheel retailer.

If an exact match is unavailable, you may receive a cash settlement equal to the original purchase price of the damaged wheel.

Q: What is not covered with the New Tread Protection Plan?

A: See Tire and Wheel Plan Terms and Conditions for exclusions.

Q: Are mounting, balancing, and other fees covered with a New Tread Protection Plan?

A: Sales tax, mounting, balancing, and other miscellaneous fees potentially charged by the product retailer or service installer on original repaired or replacement wheels and tires are not covered.

Q: Are product price increases covered with a New Tread Protection Plan?

A: The plan covers like kind and cost up to 100% on tires and 120% on wheels. Any increase in the produt price from when the product was originally purchased to when a claim is approved would not be covered.

Q: If I am planning to finance my wheels and tires, why should I add a New Tread Protection Plan to my purchase?

A: If you damage your product in a fashion that is not covered by the standard manufacturer warranty, you will still be fully responsible for making payments to complete your financing agreement. A New Tread Protection Plan paired with each wheel and tire in your order can help protect your investment, ensuring that you do not have to make payments on wheels and/or tires that you can no longer use.

Q: Can I finance a New Tread Protection Plan with the rest of my wheels, tires, or vehicle accessories order?

A: Yes!

Q: How many times can I use the New Tread Protection Plan?

A: The New Tread Protection Plan is a repair and replacement Road Hazard Program covering wheel and tires allowing for different claim fulfillments based on the claim situation.

  • Tire Repairs – The coverage allows for multiple road hazard repairs and remains in effect until the plan expires or the tire treadwear is 2/32” or less
